Described by pitchfork as an 8-bit terror duo, which frankly I'm a bit confused by, Crystal Castles make the aural equivalent of a strobe light flooding. Using modified microKorgs, the toronto based group experiment with a sound palette rich in nintendo era bleepery though miraculously avoid the sort of gimmick one sees from that asian kid who plays the mario theme on piano.
As a dj, its always great to be challenged by making mixes which have particular restrictions, such as artist or label. Earlier this year the label kitsune released a mix for their upcomming kitsune maison 4 comp (which crystal castles appeared on incedently) which included many of their featured artists seamlessly mixed. This was one of the main inspirations for my Crystal Castles omnibus mix. As far as I know its the only mix of its kind strictly featuring crystal castles material.
